Unbroken - alexandre desplat

12/24/14

What You Will Hear:  Mr. Desplat's usual command of the full orchestra.  Fittingly dark but hopeful.

Standout Tracks:  Torrance Tornado, Japanese Attack, Rain, Dead Comrades, Broken Ankle, The Plank, The War Is Over, Unbroken

Will you be humming along?
Yes.  A wonderfully slow but proud theme can be found throughout the score.

The score this makes me want to dust off:
Courage Under Fire - James Horner

Will I come back to it?
Yes.  Composers must find it difficult to walk the line between cheesy and heartwarming.  Mr. Desplat does a good job here, especially with that main theme.  Tracks that (I assume) accompany battle or time in the prison camp are appropriately intense.  Don't miss the absolutely beautiful cello on the second to last track - might be my favorite theme of the year.
