The Loft - John Frizzell

1/25/15

Picture
Looks like a strange living space...
The Loft is provided courtesy of Krakower Poling PR and Varése Sarabande.  Thank You!
  • What You Will Hear:  Pretty standard suspense writing.  Every few tracks you'll hear a nice full string section.  Some pretty creepy effects.
  • Standout Tracks:  The Loft Main Titles, Casino Night Part 2, The Video
  • Will you be humming along?  Not likely, but there are some short motifs from the first track that stuck with me.
  • The score this makes me want to dust off:  Something about the Main Titles just made me want to hear The Italian Job or Bourne Identity - John Powell.
  • Will I come back to it?  I was surprised by this one.  I thought I'd say no.  Like other suspense dramas, I understand that the music is often going to be ambient in nature.  It's just not a genre that often produces great stand alone scores (someone will probably prove me wrong).  But this one has some gems.  When Mr. Frizzell is able to write some fully realized moments for the strings, they really pack some serious angst.  On my second listen, I'll be skipping the effects and synth but will return for those strings.
