The Homesman - Marco Beltrami                                                                                                 12/12/14

Picture
My spell-check does not like the world Homesman.
  • What You Will Hear:  Piano and small string ensemble that plays a game of tag with some very interesting effects.  The score really is schizophrenic - but it is a compelling mix.
  • Standout Tracks: The Homseman Main Title, Picking Up Arrabellah Sours, River Crossing, It's Abandoned, Entering Town, The Homesman End Credits
  • Will you be humming along? Yes.  Halfway through the album I had the main melody down.  A pleasant rolling tune.
  • The score this makes me want to dust off: 3:10 To Yuma - Marco Beltrami (I know, too easy... but it's what jumped into my mind.)
  • Will I come back to it?  Yes.  The juxtaposition of beautiful melodies with spine tingling effects (and synth?) works really well.  It's almost like two scores in one, but the style change from track to track makes for an entertaining ride.   I love it when a score makes me want to see a movie.  I have no prior knowledge of this film, and have now put it on the top of my list.  I very much want to see if the rest of the visuals and storytelling match the interesting qualities of the Mr. Beltrami's score.
