The Cobbler - John Debney & Nick Urata

3/3/15

Picture
I have that exact pair of shoes.
The Cobbler is provided courtesy of Krakower Poling PR and Lakeshore Records.  Thank You!
What You Will Hear:  Jazz (of all kinds), klezmer clarinet, accordion, some hip drum kit, and eastern European influences.  A very wide range of sounds.

Standout Tracks:
The Cobbler Main Title, Magical Stitcher, Test Drive, Mixed Bag of Shoes, Cobbler Medley

Will you be humming along?
No theme caught my attention.  But I sure did enjoy getting my horn out and improvising along.

The score this makes me want to dust off:  No score really... but check out the song "Start Wearing Purple" for fun.

Will I come back to it?  I'm on the fence here.  This score has a nice mix of magic and humor.  While I really enjoyed the textures that Debney and Urata created, I often can't come back to a comedy score that lacks a strong main theme.  ....but I really dig the instrumentation and ethnic influences.  I think, in the end, the score is endearing enough that I'll come back to it when I need something fun in the background.

Question:
Does anyone use the word "hip" anymore?
