Spy - Theodore Shapiro

7/1/15

Picture
Someone give me a clever "golden" nickname.
What You Will Hear:  Just think David Arnold’s 007 scores.

Standout Tracks:
  Vespa Chase

Will You Be Humming Along?
There is a very simple theme that moves two notes at a time, usually over driving percussion.  You’ll catch on quick.

The score this makes me want to dust off:
Tomorrow Never Dies – David Arnold

Will I come back to it?
No.  I really love the play on 007, but there just isn’t much going on here.  Everything, including the theme, feels subdued when compared to the material that Shapiro is spoofing.  That could have been done on purpose…?  Maybe not to hide the one-liners and improv…?  Just spit-balling there.  The reviews are amazing, and the score will be fantastic in context.  There’s just nothing that will grab you on a stand alone listen.
