Shaun The Sheep Movie - Ilan Eshkeri |

What You Will Hear: An energetic small group featuring (among others): accordion, acoustic guitar, and whistling. A very playful orchestra, featuring lots of pizzicato, mixes in rather nicely. Tons of comical pop influences, and a few pop songs.
Standout Tracks: Feels Like Summer, Humdrum Day, Shaun’s Farm House Party, Runaway Caravan, Feels Like Summer (Baa Baa Shop Quintet), Building The Horse, Panto Horse Chase, Caravan Ride Home, Feels Like Summer (Instrumental) Will You Be Humming (Whistling) Along? You’ll love the original TV show’s fantastically friendly theme. Trumper (the baddie?) has a nice little rock motif. The melody from Feels Like Summer is adapted throughout the score, as well. The score this makes me want to dust off: About A Boy – Badly Drawn Boy Will I come back to it? Yes. This score is pure lighthearted fun. The original theme is catchy, and Eshkeri has adapted it wonderfully. His original melodies are great, and the instrumentation choices perfectly match the expected styles of humor and storytelling from the Aardman Animation team. The composer really is a chameleon here. He parodies numerous music genres, but it is done so well that they don’t even sound like parodies. A perfect example is the Baa-Baa-Shop Quintet track. It is a humorous take on one of the themes, but is so nice to listen to that you’ll feel like you’re sitting in a park on a sunny day. Rock, country-western, a cappella, even a Barry White-esque love song; they all get great send-ups. But, the heart of this score is Eshkeri's instrumentation and ability to have fun without sounding too slapstick. I don't see a lot of comedies or animation films on Eshkeri's resume, but I sincerely hope he continues to work in this style from time to time. He nailed it, and I will return often. |
