Now You See Me 2 - Brian Tyler

6/17/16

Picture
Wait, magicians are cool now?
Now You See Me 2 was provided courtesy of The Krakower Group and Varèse Sarabande.  Thank you!
What You Will Hear:  Tyler’s signature orchestrations and theme from the first movie, heavy on the drum set..

Standout Tracks:  Now You See Me 2 Main Titles, The Set Up, Sleight Of Hand, Equivoque, Trifecta, Diversion Tactics

Will You Be Humming Along?  Yes.  The main theme is hip (do kids say that anymore?) and the drums will keep you grooving. (kids definitely don’t say that anymore…)

Plus drum set equals awesome.
The album this makes me want to dust off:  Despicable Me – Heitor Pereira

Will I come back to it?  Yes.  This is more than what I’ve come to call “directionless cool.”  The drum set is all over the place and usually that’s about as deep as one of these scores goes.  It’s meant to highlight just how cool everyone on screen is in every moment.  But, Tyler has made a career of taking this style a little further.  Look at Iron Man 3 and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  He doesn't just give us noise to accompany the action.  Now You See Me 2 is much more Ocean’s 11 than those adventures, but it is fun from start to finish in much the same way.  The use of limited synth/effects mixes very well with the real instruments.  Having a full brass and woodwinds section is greatly appreciated and helps to lift this score to a higher level.  There aren't a lot of standout tracks, but that's just because there isn't a lot of variation in style.  It is just one seamless trip from one track to the next.  Want to feel impossibly cool (and witty) no matter the situation?  Just have this playing in the background.
