Max - Trevor Rabin

6/26/15

Picture
Can Max help me train my Shiba Inu?
  • What You Will Hear:  Rabin’s trademark sound with some synthetic instrumentation.
  • Standout Tracks:   Carmen Teaches Justin, Tracking Emilio, Max’s Suite
  • Will You Be Humming Along?  Maybe to Max’s Suite
  • The score this makes me want to dust off:  Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron – Hans Zimmer
  • Will I come back to it?  No.  Don’t get me wrong, I love Rabin’s writing.  Those “Titans” harmonic qualities are always enjoyable.  Th composer has the unwavering ability to write heartwarming chord structures, without sounding cheesy.  With his usual tricks, Rabin has created a score that I'm sure will sound perfectly matched to the film.  In context, it will do a wonderful job.  For my tastes, however, there isn’t enough thematic development and the (seemingly random?) synth instruments just do not work with the otherwise live instrumentation.  On the positive side, this score has put Max on my list of films to watch.  Sounds like a feel good family time.
