Is the T-Rex even in this one?

Welcome... to amazing thematic writing.
  • What You Will Hear:  Standard Giacchino wonder (plus his new sound - see below) and suspense, including a few new original themes entered into the Jurassic world (get it?).  A few references to John Williams' iconic themes.
  • Standout Tracks:  Welcome To Jurassic World, As the Jurassic World Turns, Nine To Survival Job, The Park Is Closed
  • Will you be humming along?  Most definitely.  Giacchino's original themes (I believe one for the park, and one for Chris Pratt's character?) are excellent additions.
  • The score this makes me want to dust off:  Super 8 - Michael Giacchino
  • Will I come back to it?  Yes.  The new themes are extremely enjoyable, especially considering that they exist within in the established excellence of the original film.  When stacked up against Williams' masterpiece, most new music would pale in comparison.  I was deeply impressed at how well the new material simultaneously fit in and created a new voice.  It really does hold up.  I wasn't even bothered by the fact that the original themes are rarely found here.  Beyond the thematic material, you'll find enjoyable suspense writing.  While I wish Giacchino had incorporated his themes into the action more often, he has created a frenetic and wild energy.  None of the action cues really stand out as rewindable moments, but it is a fun ride.  What a year for Giacchino, am I right?
  • Giacchino's New Sound:  Anyone else notice his new go to "wonderment" technique with lively repeated scales and arpeggios in the woodwinds, strings, and mallets?  LOVE IT.   (See Also:  Jupiter Ascending, Tomorrowland)
