Inifinitely Polar Bear - Theodore Shapiro

7/8/15

Picture
Aren't most chicken fights in a pool?
  • What You Will Hear:  Ten songs and four score tracks.  Most of the songs are from the 60's or 70's (ranging from folk to pop, and everything in between).  The score is mostly light-hearted small ensemble.  It includes hand clapping, whistling, humming; all mixed in with synth, guitars, and solo trombone.
  • Standout Tracks:  Kung-Fu Picnic, Hole In The Floor, Depressed, The Pick-Up Game
  • Will You Be Humming Along?  Yes, the songs have soul, and the score will make you feel like you’re on stage with a laid back rock group.
  • The score this makes me want to dust off:  The Spectacular Now – Rob Simonsen
  • Will I come back to it?  Yes.  This is a wonderfully uplifting collection of songs, and the score cues fit in with this family of tunes.  The trombone is great, not an instrument we often hear featured.  I’ve said it before: it is difficult to write heartwarming without crossing the line into cheesy fluff.  Shapiro did a great job here.  It is thoughtful and fun.  My only complaint is that there isn’t more from Shapiro on this one.  Talk about leaving us wanting more…  Feel good music from start to finish!
