What You Will Hear: Middle East scale and chord structures. A regal full orchestra and choir mixed with appropriate ethnic instruments.
Standout Tracks: Gods Of Egypt Prologue, Market Chase, Coronation, Set Vs. Horus, Shot Through The Heart, Snakes On A Plain, Toth’s Library, Obelisk Fight Part 1, Obelisk Fight Part 2, God of The Impossible, Bek And Zaya's Theme, Hathor's Theme Will You Be Humming Along? The main theme is appropriately epic. There are a few nice character themes as well. The album this makes me want to dust off: The Mummy Returns – Alan Silvestri

Will I come back to it? It would have been easy to write the Middle Eastern score that has been written many times before. And, this album has a lot of that tired concept in its sound, but Beltrami creates some melodic lines that are unique enough to keep things interesting and fresh. The other big plus here is the instrumentation. It sounds as though the production team’s only instructions were: “Don’t hold back.” The result is what sounds like a huge orchestra, and Beltrami gets every bit of sound he can out of it. As parts of this big sound, the brass, percussion, and Middle Eastern instruments stand out. The horns sound like Moses could part the sea at any moment. The percussion writing is inventive, and the mix often brings them way to the front of the ensemble. The ethnic instruments are never the focus but offer just the right amount of color to accompany this story’s setting. From start to finish, this is a big summer score (in February), but it is presented with much more thoughtfulness and heart than the usual blockbuster faire. While never groundbreaking, it is exceedingly refreshing and fun.
