Flesh And Bone - Adam Crystal

1/29/16

Picture
What You Will Hear:  String orchestra and piano.

Standout Tracks:  Dakini Movement I and II, Dakini Movement IV

Will You Be Humming Along?  Yes.  In each movment, the strings and piano take turns introducing melodies.  Each stretches over long periods of time but is always accompanied by motion elsewhere in the ensemble.

The score this makes me want to dust off:  Surf’s Up – Mychael Danna

Will I come back to it?  Yes.  This short album is delightful.  The producers of the show brought Crystal (a star in the ballet world) in to compose an original ballet to be performed by the characters on screen.  The first two movements are light and magical.  The third is sorrowful, and the final entry is heroic and triumphant.  The consistent feeling of perpetual motion ties all of these movements together.  Crystal has begun to break into the film score world and I personally hope to hear more from him.  Flesh and Bone (Dakini) is an enchanting short listen.
