The album this makes me want to dust off:  The Way Way Back – Rob Simonsen

Will I come back to it?  Most definitely.  This is the relaxing score of the year.  Whether it is a light moment or a sorrowful cue, Ludwig Göransson’s music is as soothing as it gets.  The instrumentation is beautifully understated and reserved.  Instead of big or lavish scoring, your enjoyment will happily rely on the composer’s creativity with plucked strings and a dusting of synthesizer.  The mixed meter doesn’t feel like mixed meter.  In this case, it flows smoothly but also gives everything a vibrancy that might otherwise have been missing.  I’m always impressed with romantic scores that never sound cheesy or overdramatic.  Teen romance flicks aren’t exactly in my wheelhouse, but I happily call Everything, Everything a joyful listening experience from start to finish.
