Desert Dancer - Benjamin Wallfisch

4/15/15

Picture
Either he's chilly or she's hot, but they can't both be right.
Desert Dancer was provided courtesy of Krakower Poling PR and Varése Sarabande.  Thank you!
What You Will Hear:  Featured cello and piano.  Both are simultaneously tender and melancholy.  Ethnic guitar and occasional heavy percussion.

Standout Tracks:  Afshin's Theme, Somewhere To Rehearse, Elaheh's Audition, Hand Dance, We Can Breathe, Desert Dancer, Withdrawal

Will you be humming along?  Yes.  The main theme is wonderfully rich and heartfelt.

The score this makes me want to dust off:  The strings take me to Seven Years In Tibet - John Williams

Will I come back to it?  The main cello theme is perfect.  Mark it down as a top track of the year.  The rest of the score dances (get it?) between moody ambience and accompanying on screen choreography.  The dichotomy of tenderness and melancholy kept me continuously engaged.  The low strings are the highlight of this score, and it should not be missed.
