Deadpool - Tom Holkenborg (Junkie XL)

2/23/16

Picture
I get the impression a lot of people are excited about this.
What You Will Hear:  Heavy drum kit, bass, percussion, and electronics.  There is a mix of pop tunes most likely used for comedic effect.

Standout Tracks:  Small Disruption, Twelve Bullets, Liam Neeson Nightmares, This Place Looks Sanitary

Will You Be Humming Along?  There is a repetitive four-note theme that will easily get stuck in your head (whether you want it to or not).

Look at all the synth!
The album this makes me want to dust off:  Black Hawk Down – Hans Zimmer

Will I come back to it?  No.  After taking major steps into the world of full orchestral scoring, Tom Holkenborg has reverted to Junkie XL for this job.  There’s nothing wrong with this, as I’m sure it fits the film well.  (See: Twelve Bullets)  It’s just not made for a stand-alone listening experience.  There are a few quieter moments for the strings that are nice (see: “Liam Neeson Nightmares”).  The rest of the score that features strings is mostly low rumblings without much direction.  Deadool this is 99% electronics and isn’t built for my ears.
