Bhopal: A Prayer For Rain - Benjamin Wallfisch

3/18/15

What You Will Hear:  Chamber strings, sometimes lush and sometimes playful.  Then, absolutely troubled.  Some electronics and synth.  Limited Indian instruments: the tabla and bulbul tarang.

Standout Tracks:  Elegy For Bhopal, Introduction, Epilogue

Will you be humming along?  There is a delicate theme introduced in the first track.  Very nice.

The score this makes me want to dust off:  Lost: Season 1 – Michael Giacchino

Will I come back to it?  No.  As the cello debuted in the beautiful opening elegy, I thought I’d be truly hooked.  Unfortunately, by the midway point, the film’s subject matter leads the score down a much darker path.  The dissonances and electronics represent the horrible industrial accident well, but at the expense of the listening experience.  Check out the standouts, and then just check out.
