What You Will Hear:Signature Giacchino sound. As expected: tons of big adventure, villainy, mystery, and romance.
Standout Tracks: Jupiter Ascending - 1st Movement, Jupiter Ascending - 3rd Movement, The Shadow Chase, The Titus Clipper, Family Jeopardy, Flying Dinosaur Fight, Commitment
Will you be humming along? There are multiple character themes, many based on simple 3-5 note ideas.
The score this makes me want to dust off: Star Wars: Return of the Jedi - John Williams
Will I come back to it? No matter what, I always enjoy Mr. Giacchino's music. That being said, I would still characterize this effort as uneven. There are so many magical moments, but I found my attention wandering in between those dynamic cues. The highs are exemplary, but the low's are... just "there." I look forward to more listening opportunities with the hope that the score will reveal more. I'm confident I will discover greatness. In a time where many scores can be traced to Remote Control Productions, Mr. Giacchino has given us yet another score full of original and wonderful writing. He transcends the genre; so often our music can be shackled by the (understandable) limitations created by directors, producers, editors, and other creative needs. But Giacchino gives us something captivating every time. Jupiter Ascending, even with some flaws, flourishes.
